in my office area there is a small computer system that is supposed to do nothing but put an informational power point on a nearby display.

something seems to have gone wrong with the connection to the nearby display. the connection is loose or weak or something.

so it is continuously making the sound effects as though someone were plugging in and unplugging a USB device.

I am apparently the only one in the office who is bothered by it. but I am ready to do a violence.

please make it stop.

(ETA: Duh. I have the power to make it stop myself, by the simple expedient of (drumroll....) closing the door. there is this vague sense that that is Just Not Done Around Here unless you're in a meeting, but the alternative is for me to be on edge and cranky all day, so they can cope.)

(ETAx2: I unplugged the darn thing. Now is when I find out that it was part of some load-bearing infrastructure...)

Does it have a plug you can "accidentally" knock out?

is there a mute button? or volume all the way down? (Or, what i do on my work computer: both)

the volume control for the display didn't do anything, and the volume control for the PC couldn't be used because the display was broken.

So far nobody has come to yell about this box being unplugged so that's probably a good sign. :)
