bleah. my mood on this changes from moment to moment almost. working my way back towards "I see what you were trying to do but you failed to take into account..." - someone posted an article theorizing that the writers *didn't see Quentin as bi* and. sigh. it makes everything make sense. (didn't see Quentin as bi? were they not paying attention? or do they still think 'heteroflexible' is somehow different from bi? he clearly wasn't hung up about it the couple times he definitively slept with Eliot?) All the good things I said are, in retrospect, still true. They're still casting on a race and maybe gender-blind basis for small parts. They're still featuring a diverse main and recurring cast that now skews female. They even had a couple (gasp) fat??? actresses in speaking roles that weren't about fatness? They're still prioritizing female sexuality and pleasure in sex? I dunno. As time goes on I'm going to need to sort out how much is "you have taken an unforgivable step" and how much is "you forgot to tag your MCD you assholes"... and it might have been nice if we didn't have to wait until January (I think) for the next episode.
I have a lot of feelings about this, but not a lot of words about my feelings. This show did/is doing some really good things for representation, like you say, which is fantastic. But I felt like the last episode undid or ignored some major character growth arcs that were also really valuable, which is disappointing/frustrating/unforgivable (depending on my mood at any given moment). I guess it's still possible they'll pick up some of these narrative threads next season, and I'd like to be optimistic, but it might take me a while to get there.
