My first instinct was to look for the like button to show my agreement.
I wonder now whether the lack of a quick way to give feedback/approval will make people more or less likely to engage with other posts...

That makes sense. If the options are between 1) say nothing unless you have something well-thought and constructive to say, or 2) say whatever you’re thinking to engage with others, even if it’s only a few words, most people will go with option 1.
Against all my internal programming, I might take a step out of my comfort zone and go with option 2.
