also I learned that the translation of CEO!Waymond's line about laundry and taxes actually *blunted the impact* and cut a tie to a later scene?

we were given the translation "In another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you"
and I mean. that is a sucker punch to the feels. perhaps they nerfed the translation to spare our lives?

what he said is apparently better translated as "If there is another life, I will still choose to be with you, filing taxes and opening a laundromat." which I can confirm with my limited knowledge of Mandarin.

I will see you from that next life.

if I had been watching by myself Cow would have gotten a workout over that scene I tell ya. as it was Husband and Daughter got squished a bit themselves. and now I find out that they pulled the punch...

and also the actual translation fits the themes of the movie so much better. where every choice spins off an alternate universe. where Evelyn tells Joy in the end 'I choose you.'

...why do they cut so much nuance out of subtitles? that's why I started studying Mandarin in the first place...
