Yesterday, since it was sunny when I got home from work, and the forecast called for rain most of the rest of the week, I started preparing the Annual Sacrifice.

Spinach (the one variant of "leaf" my daughter eats willingly) and lettuce in 5-gallon bucket planters.

Oregon Sugar Pod peas in the actual dirt-dirt. Lots of them. Some of them have to grow, right?

...no, they don't. I anticipate harvesting precisely zero spinach, lettuce, or peas.

I also started the process of cutting the feral strawberries down to a dull roar. They did not like growing in the box where they were planted on purpose, but they made an effective jailbreak. They actually do really like growing everywhere else, to the extent that some parts of my "lawn" are more strawberry plants than grass. But they mostly make runners, and the few berries they produce usually have a really terrible flavor. They do not get to live in my garden beds.

Also it's not out of the question that the lavender survived the winter, but the plants have never seemed really happy where I put them. If I ever get really ambitious I should probably move them.
